Glossary of camp terms
Quiet time
There is a time set aside each day for the campers and staff to have a devotion and prayer time. Each camper has a quiet time book that will help guide her.
Spic-n-span
The campers with the counselors supervision help clean the cabins. It is a competition among the campers.
Breakfast
We eat in the dining hall, but sometimes we may cook out.
Time with missionaries
Each week we have missionary guests that come and share with the campers about their work and the things that God is doing.
Mission Study
Each week the campers learn about 3 different missionaries. This year they are on a couple from Peru, Philippines, and California. The other time set aside for mission study will be a mission action project. The mission studies are led by the unit leaders.
Camptivity Groups
This is a special time where campers get to choose from a variety of activities. Each summer these groups may change depending on the gifts and talents of the staff. Some camptivity groups have been clowning, sports, archery, ropes course, crafts, puppets, newspaper, creative movement, drama, Spanish, cheerleading, etc. Each staff will lead in a particular activity.
Bible Studies
The theme this year is “Inside Out”. Each day the campers will participate in a Bible Study led by the counselors. The Bible Studies are already written. The staff will learn these during orientation week and all supplies for these will be provided.
Crafts
Each cabin will participate in crafts. The crafts are led by the staff.
Recreation/Nature
Each cabin will participate in recreation and nature activities led by the staff. Ideas will be given during orientation week.
Worship
Each night we will have a time of worship which is geared toward the age of the camper. The staff will have the opportunity to help lead and participate in worship through music, drama, interpretive movement, testimony, prayer, reading etc.
Serendipity
This is a special time of fun set aside each night. This may be a camp fire, unit night (where each unit plays games, has a party, etc.), water games, Olympics, or whatever can be thought of.
Get Ready for bed
You guessed it—this is when campers get ready for bed!! They take showers, you lead a devotion, hang out time before bed. Devotion ideas will be shared during orientation week.
Other things of camp
Opening celebration
This is a time on Mondays where the staff and missionaries introduce themselves to the campers. This is done in a creative way either by skit or using songs. We also go over the theme and some rules about camp.
Closing celebration
This is a time on Fridays where the campers and staff share about the week and close out the week.
