Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world
Red and yellow, black and white - they are precious in His sight
Jesus loves the little children of the world.
God's Word tells us in Matthew 19:13-14 the little children were brought to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them, but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
Some of my fondest memories of WMU are singing this song, hearing this scripture and learning that even I could be a missionary. I remember how much I enjoyed learning about missionaries - and learning that Jesus loved me and ALL the children of the world. I owe so much to the wonderful mission leaders that touched my life and taught a little girl that she could be a missionary wherever she was! I discovered that I did not have to travel around the world, far from home, but that I could be a missionary at school, home and wherever God placed me.
I received Jesus when I was 12 years old at Vacation Bible School, and I believe VBS is a mission field. As I grew in Christ, I never forgot the words that I could be a missionary "wherever I was.” For me, "wherever" has been in an office at school as a receptionist where I could share a smile, lend an ear to a hurting parent or give a hug to a child having a bad day. "Wherever" is in prayer walking through my neighborhood, singing (my passion), sending an encouraging card, or sitting in my living room floor with my grandbabies teaching them songs
about Jesus, learning Bible verses or praying for mommy who might be having a big test at school. No matter where I am, I can share God's love, a lesson I first learned through WMU.
What a JOY it was to see my own children going to mission groups, and now I am overjoyed in being able to share that same experience with my grandchildren. I encourage all parents and grandparents to involve your children in learning about missions. I’m grateful to my mom and dad for allowing three little girls to be at church on Wednesday nights to learn about Jesus' love through missions, so that we can continue, for generations to come, to go out and tell others about Jesus.
Amazed by His presence...humbled by His love,
