What is the World Religions and Global Cultures Center?

If you are like me you continue to be amazed at how God has brought the “world” to our doorstep. Almost daily we discover the diversity of our neighbors in language and culture and the religious pluralism in our neighborhoods. This presents us with opportunities and challenges as Christians and as churches at work, school, play and in our missions and ministry efforts.

On October 2, 2007, Campbell University Divinity School officially announced the opening of the World Religions and Global Cultures Center. The purpose of the Center is to foster among Christian leaders and congregations a greater awareness and understanding of the diverse cultural and religious groups represented among our neighbors in order to create greater opportunities for Christian relationships and relational ministries.

I have the privilege of representing WMU NC on the Advisory Council of the Center. Personally, after my first meeting I was excited and encouraged that here was a resource to help church leaders and churches understand their neighbors and feel comfortable sharing their lives with them.

And, then, I thought, women involved in WMU will think this is exciting as well – a resource to help us make a difference in the lives of those we live near, shop with, go to school with, who play with our children. The awareness, the knowledge, the skills – another way to challenge, prepare and equip Christians believers to be radically involved in the fulfillment of the Great Commission.

In addition to opportunities at the center, divinity school students are being trained to lead seminars in local churches and associational meetings.

For more information about the seminars or to enlist a divinity school student for your church or meeting, call 800.334.4111, ext. 1506.

As other opportunities come available, we will let you know.
