Highlights
Heck-Jones® Offering Update

WMU NC is extremely grateful for your support through the Heck-Jones® Offering. Your commitment ensures the future as you provide involvement opportunities for children, youth and adults where they may answer God’s call to be on mission with Him. Here is updated WMU NC news.

Good News!
  • WMU NC has the highest state WMU Enrollment (99,041) according to 2009 SBC Statistics. http://www.bpnews.net/pdf/2009SBCStatsStateConvention.pdf
  • Camp Mundo Vista® continues to provide missions camping experiences for girls who have completed 4th – 12th grade.
  • Women are on mission in New York City, Massachusetts, and Raleigh, NC, this summer through WMU NC sponsored mission trips.
  • Many churches are financially supporting WMU NC through a planned/budgeted line item sent monthly, quarterly or annually.
Distressing News!
  • The winter weather prevented many churches from meeting during the WMU Focus Week, and plans to highlight the Heck-Jones® Offering were postponed or cancelled.
  • As of June 2010, the Heck-Jones® Offering receipts were approximately $244,000 toward the 2010 goal of $1.3 million. This goal represented the forecasted 2010 operating expenses of WMU NC, just over $100,000 per month.
  • Members at Missions Extravaganza (WMU NC Annual Meeting) approved a 10% decrease in the 2010 WMU NC programs as well as no increases in the salaries and a decrease in the benefits of the WMU NC staff.
  • Despite these budget constraints, meeting the financial needs of WMU NC remains a challenge.
There is still time to be an active supporter in the missions of WMU NC through the Heck-Jones® Offering. WMU NC staff and Executive Board members are available to speak in your church to raise awareness regarding the offering. No church is too small or too large and you can promote the offering at a time that best fits your church calendar. Offering materials are available upon request by contacting the WMU office at 866.210.8602 or jbranch@wmunc.org.

One of the best ways to support WMU NC is through your church budget. Budgeted giving, either a preset amount or a percentage of the receipts, enables WMU NC to confidently plan and carry out its missions endeavors. WMU NC will provide a copy of the 2010 adjusted budget to assist your church in making this kind of giving decision. No gift is too small!

WMU NC Women "Living the Call"

Holly Baldwin of New Hope Church in Raleigh shared a vision she had with her WMU group to start the Angelfood ministry in 2008. After recruiting not only the Women on Mission but many others within the church, the AngelFood program was started. Now almost two years later and with 75 volunteers, the ministry is serving hundreds of families with food relief in our community. Holly has also shared this vision with several other churches throughout the area and inspired them to start the Angelfood program as well. This ministry has opened many doors to touch unchurched persons' lives, sharing the love of Jesus with each one who enters. Holly, serving as Director of this program, is living the call using her gifts and talents in an area she feels God has called her to serve, which is community missions!
